Re: Marshal Khorloghiyin Choibalsan
Had the order in my shaking hand. Seemed entirely proper to me. The back has been scratched, to ascertain the gold content I think. But many of Choibalsan's awards have various forms of damage. But, then, he wore the medals a LOT.

Re: Marshal Khorloghiyin Choibalsan
I always have wondered why he chose to wear his Soviet awards before his Mongolian ones.

Re: Marshal Khorloghiyin Choibalsan
I've wondered too. Well, Choibalsan sometimes did, sometimes didn't. He was pretty random in that regard. But, then, Tsedenbal did too. And so did other Soviet allies. I've always wondered if there came to be some sort of a system behind all this.

A couple of pics of Choibalsan from a Mongolian book on Halkin Gol, including my favorite photo of then-Komkor Zhukov. Nice shots of XX Years RKKA Medal throughout. :thumbsup

Re: Marshal Khorloghiyin Choibalsan
Here is his Suvorov 1st Class citation. Number not yet presenting itself.
For skilful leadership of the military operations of the forces of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Army in the fight against the common enemy - Imperialist Japan awards Marshal Of The Mongolian People's Republic Chojbalsan Horloin the Order Suvorov 1st Class 8th September 1945. Very similar to Order "Victory" citations, obviously a lesser award due to the smaller size of his forces.
