"Shockworker Of The MPR" Badge.
Here's a shot of my newest, an Udarnik. I've been eyeing these for a while and had the opportunity to get one cheap albeit slightly damaged.
A little enamel damage on the obverse, and a huge blob of yukky solder on the reverse. Thanks to Alexei (who else) for supplying this beauty. :)

Eric,
I would probably try to melt away some of the solder and see if I could uncover the serial number. It's usually located at the 7 o'clock position. Alexei |

It does depend on the variety, though. "Usually", yes; "always", no.
This is a rather ambiguous creature. While it is a badge, it is also a "decoration" or sorts. Not knowing where to place it, I put it here, There is also a confusion that while the badge has a gilt finish, it is very thin and often vanishes/evaporates so that some look silver. Battushig actually lists these as two "grades" and now admits this was an error. There are two types, with no coherence in the observed serial number ranges. As elsewhere in the socialist world, it was awarded to especially productive workers. Type 1 -- mirror reverse -- observed serial number range Low=18/High=5009 |

Type 2 - flat reverse - observed serial number range Low=1/High = 961.
Documents are uncommon and poorly understood. Here is one (that I have yet to get translated -- I suspect it would be interesting). |

Re: Udarnik Badge
Ed,
I thought that there are two different sizes: large and small. Is that so? Marc |

Re: Badge "Shockworker".
Very VERY nice! I believe that is only the second #1 item on the forum so far. If there are numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 600, etc out there there must be a #1.
Any idea as to when and who this #1 was awarded?
