The Distinción "René Ramos Latour" is awarded to Cuban workers in recognition of reached merits during 25 or more years, in the mining-metallurgical field and had kept an exemplary and matching attitude to revolutionary principles.
Also, in exceptional cases, it can be awarded to other workers or to foreign citizens who had contributed noticeably to the development of the mining-metallurgical field.
The Distinction “René Ramos Latour” will be awarded by the Excecutive Secretariat of the National Syndicate of Mining-Metallurgical Workers together with the Mining, Geology and Sidero-mechanic Industry Ministers, depending on the case.

Notice this example has a plain suspension and not the useual five sided one.

Commander René Ramos Latour (alias Daniel), fell in battle at El Jobal, Sierra Maestra.

Ramos Latour was born on May 12th, 1933 died 1958

He used to be a substitute for Frank Pais at the national headquarters of the 26th of July Movement. He was 25 when he died fighting Batista´s offensive against guerrilla lines. At the time he was head of a guerilla column.

During a 1957 strike, Ramos Latour commanded the 26th of July Movement armed uprisings in Santiago de Cuba. Afterwards, he went to the mountains as head of the ‘José Tey’ Ninth Column that later became part of the Frank País Second Eastern Front. Ramos Latour went back to the underground struggle after which he joined the guerrillas.
