Re: Fake Orders of Glory
Matt,
Can you please send me large scans of front and back by email, plus some specific enlargements: the full ribbon with СЛАВА showing details under the enamel, the top part of the tower from the crenelated wall up, the SN, the top arm including the ring. Also, can you tell if there is a small gap between the base of the tower and the top of the enameled ribbon underneath, or is the bottom of the tower touches the edge of the ribbon. Marc |

Re: Fake Orders of Glory
What you think about this order of Glory 2nd class? it's in my collection for some years, but as is easily faked with a 3th class order...I'm not sure about it.

Re: Fake Orders of Glory
Although I'm not an expert, I do like the second one. Everything seems to be consistent with this type. I have my doubts with the first one. Could it be that the last number was erased? The surface around the number looks different from the rest of the back.
But let's wait till experts give their opinion. |

Re: Fake Orders of Glory
the serial # area on the first piece has definitely been buffed. As for genuineness of 2nd class pieces, i can never seem to tell so i will wait for more experienced members.
Do you own these pieces or are you looking to buy them? Tom |

Re: Fake Orders of Glory
Second classes are always a gamble; Without a looking at the center medaillon with a good magnifier (I do use a microscope b.t.w.), it is almost impossible to recognize, whether the gold plating is genuine or not. 9 out of 10 pieces seen on the market these days are altered III. classes or scratch fakes.
It seems that the serial number of the first piece has been altered by erasing the last digit, which would make it a 194.xxx - range piece of the III. class. The second one MAY be ok. Last edited by Shocktrooper; 05-28-2013 at 08:25 AM. |

Re: Fake Orders of Glory
Thank you for your answers. The number in the 1st one is not buffed. There are scratches on top of the number. That is it. Plus the number looks like known engraver's hand writing. I would greatly appreciate Alexey Nota-Benne input.
Best regards. |

Re: Fake Orders of Glory
The Patina is also completely gone from the top point. I never said the number has been altered, but inconsistencies should always be taken into account.
Also, Alexei will authenticate pieces in person for a very reasonable price. Perhaps you could send them to him rather than asking specifically for his help for free? |
