My two cents...

I personally have a greater problem with those who purposefully mislead the customer than those who seek to overcharge a customer (i.e. "silver" reference in Vet. of Labor listing is worse than $45 list fee). While not liking it, I don't think we can really take issue with someone who seeks to overcharge someone for a piece. It is up to the seller to accurately list the piece, and for the buyer to determine what he is willing to pay for the piece. Obviously, to those of us in the know, $45 is about 10 times the going rate. I suspect that this seller will continue to lose $1+ each week he lists the piece in fees since, with the most meager amount of Ebay comparison shopping, a potential buyer can find the same set for a much more reasonable price. If the piece is too expensive, then one simply doesn't buy it!!! Believe me, for those of you who also sell, or rely upon CIS based locals for your stock, we who buy here constantly must face the decision as to what we buy based on an appropriate price and what it might be the profit margin on the piece. As buyers, we also understand that the local sellers are doing this to make a living (as perhaps some do stateside on Ebay) and will try to squeeze every last ruble, hryvna, or leu out of a buyer. If it is too expensive, I walk away, as I suspect many do the equivalent in cyberspace...

Art,

Perhaps it would therefore be a good idea to create a price guide on this forum, where we could, as a group, come up with a min to max price you might expect to pay for medal or order X.

It would certainly be very useful to those people like myself, who have only been collecting for a short period of time. For instance, I'd love to buy an 'Order of Personal Courage', but have no idea what a good price for such an order would be.

Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.

I think the listing is so poorly written that most would be suspicious of its legitimacy and price--irrespective of what the scans show.

Dear Friends,

I would like for us to continue this discussion, but I thought it would be best if I move all posts about the prices for the Soviet awards to the General Talk as Price Forum. We can continue it over there.

Let's continue the disinformation discussion here.

I'm Rich!!!!!!!!!!!

Or might be, if the following information was correct....

"Order of Best WORKER Soviet Russian WWII

Old Soviet/Russian Order of Best Worker was awarded during WWII for gallantry in Work for Front. Attached with ribbon, beautifully made of pure silver, measures 3 3/4", ribbon has wear due to age. "

And what is the "pure silver order" starting at $24.00  ?

This is just outrageous! I don't believe anyone can mistake a light aluminum medal for "pure silver"!

Here's another mistake I found on eBay. A dealer with 2000+ positive feedbacks advertises this:

Here we're offering the famous "Order of the Red Star". It's in very good condition, Has a mint marking on the back and the number:263765. As you know, Russians issued 2,7 million of those during WWII. So, this number brings us back somewhere to 1941 - Battle for Moscow! Or even earlier - Finnish war! (It's possible to make the research, but it'll cost more than the decoration). Of course, it's original, made from sterling silver.

Well, they have started issuing 6-digit serial numbers in late 1942, and it is certainly not a Finnish War award. To be more exact, this piece was awarded in November-December 1942.
