Re: My newest purchase, a naval uniform.
This is a good question to ask BEFORE making a purchase of this nature.

But on topic, is there a way a navy officer could have been awarded this medal? |

If they were free I would still have questions in fact if they were free even more questions would arise.
Something is either fake or real. If real it is worth the cash. If fake it is not worth the story. Where are the Jubilee Medals? The best way to find out how a Naval commander was awarded a Medal "For The Capture Of Berlin" would be to research it.

Re: My newest purchase, a naval uniform.
If he is naval and he is there that would be due to a OPW'85 which would mean this is not a complete set. If he did get an OPW'85 it would mean he got all the other Jubilee awards and if so it would be VERY fishy that they were not on his uniform and the awards that are currently on his uniform are not part of the larger group (wherever that may be).

Re: My newest purchase, a naval uniform.
As Naval awards are not on podvig he would only show up if he got the OPW in 85. I didn't suggest that the awards present were '85s.

False, naval awards are making their way onto podvig, if the process isn't complete already. And here is your officer, Guards Captain Nikolai Vasilievich Filyachenko. :thumbsup OPW1: Общедоступный электронный банк документов 'Подвиг народа' OPW2, with citation confirming the Sevastopol and Odessa medals: Общедоступный электронный банк документов 'Подвиг народа' And apparently he did have a 1985 OPW1, which I'm not surprised if it's not on the uniform/totally missing. Merry Christmas! :D Alex PS - if the podvig home page comes up, give it another minute to load or click "поиск награждения" to get it to bring up the specific records. |

Re: My newest purchase, a naval uniform.
Thnx Alex, great stuff! Do I understand correctly that there is no mention of the medal for battle merit and the capture of berlin?
Btw, do you do research? |
