Re: Fake Orders of the Great Patriotic War 2nd Class

This battered medal of mine has found a new home. Three questions:
1. Is it genuine WWII issue?
2. Do you think the hammer-cicle are original - I take it there was some repair. By the look of it, enamel is native.
3. Finally, what's the cost of the metal it's made of?
Many thanks,
Sergei

Re: Fake Orders of the Great Patriotic War 2nd Class

1942 issue 2nd class OGPW is about 20-30 USD worth of metal.

Unless you get a "good" price.

I'm pretty certain this is a reissue and the piece is 100% legitimate. That serial number looks too right and not messed with.

I haven't run the numbers lately, but surely there must be more scrap value than that with silver at $31 an ounce and gold at $1600.

If the hammer and sickle alone weighs 1/30 of an ounce, that's $50 right there...

Re: Fake Orders of the Great Patriotic War 2nd Class

Shishkov, paraphrased by me, says about 25g of silver(.925) and about .3g of gold(.583?) in H&S alone.

Re: Fake Orders of the Great Patriotic War 2nd Class

http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...tml#post172978

24.85 grams of Silver±1.352 grams 0.325 grams of Gold ±0.0184 grams.

Silver 0.798946052 troy oz $31.61
Gold 0.0104489926 troy oz $1666.21
That means today they are worth $25.25 + $17.41 = $42.66 on average.

You are taking into account the "purity", right? I'm sure you are. I'm to befuddled to do the math myself right now.

Re: Fake Orders of the Patriotic War 2nd Class

I've done the purity, and checked with my local gold dealer what they'd give for that. (The chart shows how much 999. gold and silver that's in the piece)

The prices became: 86.99 NOK (15,02 USD) for 0,35 grams of 999. gold.
And 89.91 kr (15.53 USD) for 25 grams of silver.

Totalt: 30,55 USD. But that is what you get for selling the gold to a dealer, as they normally take some of the actual worth themselves.
So unless you get a "good price", or sell the metal in it's "actual" value (17,32 g + 25,31 s = 42,63), you get 25% less.

Re: Fake Orders of the Patriotic War 2nd Class

Purity was taken into account so the figure I put was the "true" metallic value less the screw plate.

Hi,
I need help on this one:
What do you think about this Order of The Great Patritic War (number #65540)
Starback variation.
Is it a original WW2 period example?
Regards

Fabio

Seems like a Variation 1.3.1 ('Starback', curved up mintmark at 6 o'clock,
no ray under sword's handle), according to Soviet-screwbacks.com.
I'll try to post better pics.
Here is the first one:
