In combat with the German-fascist invaders from 10.7 through 24.7.42 near the village of Lomovo, Zemlyansk Region, Voronezh Oblast he proved himself in the following manner: Lieutenant Ledenev’s unit destroyed an enemy cavalry battery deployed around its OP; suppressed a 105mm gun and one 37mm cannon; and scattered and partially destroyed as much as a battalion of enemy infantry. While firing on a column of vehicles and eight tanks, one tank was destroyed and two vehicles were set on fire with the remaining tanks and vehicles scattering. On 21.7 during an attack on the regimental observation post, four enemy submachine gunners attacked him with the result being he captured one with sidearm with the others fleeing.
