Re: Author Call - Soviet Collectors Unite!
Won't there be a problem with this "contest" (forgive me this bad word)?
I mean - for example I have published an article (on-line) on the topic (promoting award research and buying groups instead of individual awards), but the article isin Polish. How to judge wether the article is worth something? Especially that this article was targeting Polish collectors of the Soviet awards, of whom the majority don't know English, so writing it in thatlanguage would be pointless. I am not writing it to boast or to join the competition, as I am sure it's not as good as others, nor am I a paying mamber (which should change soon, as I should finally get a bit of a salary increase - and don't lough, 20USD is enough for two people to survive a week), I am just rising a point for consideration. |

Re: Author Call - Soviet Collectors Unite!
The article is on the topic that is likely obvious to this forum members, but is still a novum here, where the award collecting culture is still barbaric. Plus I used an example that was later posted here:
O kolekcjonowaniu odznaczeñ i dokumentów inaczej - czê¶æ pierwsza - odznaczeni, opis, zdjêcia, opinie Unfortunately, most of my articles are not soviet-award concentrated: Kamil Szustak - blog rekonstrukcyjny - dobroni.pl Again - I don't even try to compete. |

Re: Author Call - Soviet Collectors Unite!
Although not expressed in this thread, last year's offer especially encouraged articles in "print" due to their permanence for posterity vice a web page which can be gone tomorrow.
I do like what I see here and in our attempt to encourage more publishing and publicity can sweeten the deal - PM me for details. Keep it up! |

Re: Author Call - Soviet Collectors Unite!
Mine's still being worked on!
It's the first thing i've written in any sort of formal format since secondary school so it's taking the old grey matter longer than i had hoped to get everything in order. Then comes the next step of finding somewhere to publish it Maybe i just need a good old fashioned kick up the arse! haha Tom |

Re: Author Call - Soviet Collectors Unite!
I've always considered doing an article with a comparison of Soviet Awards to People's Republic Of Bulgaria. So many parallels it's astonishing.
Both used "normal" awards for long service until the late 50's and both saw the greatest percentage of 1970-80s awards being for the 5 year plans with the top end awards being given away as birthday presents. The Bulgarians however did go a little crazy with the commemoratives after 1975. Brezhnev would have had to be reinforced to be able to receive them all.

Re: Author Call - Soviet Collectors Unite!
Hello all - I have been busy the last couple of months and just recently found this thread. I found this thread to be very interesting and I am very glad to have read the offer that has been put out there for us all. I wish I had seen this thread earlier than this past week when the thread was created so that I could offer my assistance.
With that said, if there are any collectors who would like a fellow member to review what they wrote and provide constructive advice if needed, please let me know. Thanks desantnik for putting this offer out there and I hope since this thread's creation you have got responses from fellow collectors. |

Thanks Ralph! You did a great job on your article and I both enjoyed reviewing it and am thankful for the opportunity prior to its publishing in JOMSA.
