"Socialist Labour" Merit Medal.

I came across this in an auction; seemed everyone else was interested in the later model for Military Merit... maybe they were more motivated by the PPHs below the star. When I saw the Rakosi seal, my jaw dropped and I snagged it for very little; one of those happy things that comes once in a while.

How long were the medals that had the PPHs under the star awarded?

The medal with the PPH's below the star would be the Medal for Military Merit/Distinguished Service Medal and was awarded from 1953 to 1964. From 1953 to 1956 the seal in the center would be the "Rakosi" seal; from 1957 through 1964, the "Kadar" seal would be in the center.

Hello Greg - Thanks for your latest post and information. I will have the medal and some others with me when we see each other this coming April at the collector gathering in southern Virginia.

Hello gentlemen, in my mind, the socialist labor medal is of course a civilian one; and its twin with crossed ppsh is a military merit medal, fairly common.*I'm tracking the full combo socialist merit medal+ diplomas, and they are scarcer...
