Glory III,244963,Rifleman,49th Guards Rifle Regiment,Hungary
I just have to share this one that came in recently. This is my first Glory III award for fighting in Hungary and one of the better citations I have. This guy should have been awarded 2nd class!
Enjoy Brendan:thumbsup 1.Last name, name, and patrionymic: Korchuganov, Pavel Semenovich 2.Rank: Guards Private 3.Duty position: Rifleman - 4 Company, 2 Battalion, 149 Guards Rifle Regiment, 49 Guards Kherson Red Banner Order of Suvorov Rifle Division Short description of personal combat feat or service Comrade Korchuganov was the first of his platoon to rush into an enemy trench line in fighting for the village of Chovanka (Hungary) on 25 December 1944 and in close combat killed seven enemy soldiers and captured two. Additionally on this day while repelling an enemy counterattack, Comrade Korchuganov killed four enemy soldiers with his assigned weapon. Signed Commander, 149 Guards Rifle Regiment, Guards Colonel Tyurin on 31 December 1944 Awarded the Order of Glory III Class by Order 01-N of the 49 Guards Rifle Division dated 2 JAN 45.

Brendan, you're making a common mistake, even for the grunts in the field back during the war.
The 2nd Class could NOT be awarded, no matter how valorous the citation, until the recipient had earned the 3d Class. If it was clearly a great feat and the recipient didn't have a 3d Class, he would have been awarded a higher award, i.e. Red Star, OPWI/II, Red Banner, Lenin, HSU. |

perhaps I should have said he could have been awarded a III class for actions in the first part of the day and a II class for his actions in the later part of the day;)

Re: Glory III,244963,Hungary
Here is the original citation. An old man for a private trench hopping.
