Fakes will probably start just before the demand..... as the demands will usually be instigated.

Once demand starts to rise, the forgeries will get to work, scamming people for money. But since demand for these items is pretty rare, there are very few professional forgeries for them. Hence, there are few fakes and those that are counterfeit are easy to spot, because of the lack of professionalism.
