M40 field cap

Hi,

I am looking for some opinions on this field cap. Unfortunately, these are the only pictures I have. The hammer and sickle appear to be separate from the rest of the star. Someone told me that is a good sign.

Thanks,
Eddie

Re: M40 field cap

The cap seems ok from these pics, but the star is standard and the hammer / sickle is not separate from the rest of the star. These caps are pretty basic in design, no piping, band color, etc. They are easy to fake, but just from these pics I do not see anything specific to be very worried about.

Re: M40 field cap

Thanks! The cap looks very similar to other M40 field caps I have seen on the internet. However, most of the ones I have seen have a lot of wear.

Re: M40 field cap

Remember, it's just my opinion; like 'budenovkas' opinions on these "WWII" field caps will vary!

Thanks for posting it,

Re: M40 field cap

Gagarin,

There was no need to repost the pictures, you could have referred directly to the appropriate for-sale page on this forum.

One thing about the star: on one picture, it is chipped on the branch at 12, whereas on the other picture it is not
I guess the seller needs to explain what is going on.

Re: M40 field cap

I guess it depends on where it came from.
I know that a ton of faked M40 hats come out of Ukraine in all colours and wear, so I am not sure, but like you said, the seperate hammer and sickle is a good sign. :)

Commissar,

Except that the hammer and sickle are NOT separate, as can clearly be seen on these pictures.

The separate H&S is early prewar type of cocarde was changed to whole type in 1939 both for enlisted and commanding personel.
