M1958 parade uniform
Any thoughts on this one? Are these being faked?

Patrik,
They are not being faked that I know of. Very few people even know what they are. After all, the tunic is really the same as the M1969 service one but with parade boards. The only really unique thing is the collar tabs with gold embroidered edging. Yours should have 1960s dated buttons, and nice thick fabric not the thinner 1980s stuff. The tabs look like they have the embroiddered edging. I have a set for a KGB officer. It has the hat with its hard to find two piece hat badge, the tunic with 1960s buttons, the parade boards, BUT the tabs are missing. I put regular tabs on but it is not the same without the gold embroidered edging. I have been trying to find gold embroidered edged royal blue tabs for 8 years now to complete it!!! Shawn |

No...that looks like a M1969 uniform. The Jubilee medal ribbon (issued on 1978 is the give away here.
The colour on the M1958 uniform was also a darker shade of olive than the M1969 uniform and as Shawn says, it was made from thick heavy wool, not the thin stuff used on the M1969 uniform. Also, the shoulder boards are M1969 rather than the softer M1958 shoulder boards - also the rank stars are gilt aluminium rather than brass which was used on the older uniforms.

Key also is that the collar tab edging appears to be aluminum and not embroidery a la M1958.
