strange marshal embrodery
hello gents, I found this pic on the web...
well, the two-colours embrodery disturbs me (the fine golden tarnished a lot compared to the mettalic wire). It reminds me a known jacket for a M45 marshall of the soviet union, displayed in a very well known big uniform book, stated as a fake. This M45 jacket has 2-colours embrodery... So can we conclude the M55 jacket shown on my pic is suspicious?

embroidery
I don't think its bad based ont he collar embroidery; in the 'big book' that has the repro M1945 the embroidery is not wrong because of the coloring (though thats part of it), but the pattern on the collar and cuffs itself is wrong. Here the embroidery seems to be ok, just 2 toned. When the first wave of M1954 uniforms mwas made they still used the real gold embroidery like that on the M1945s and M1943s. Starting with some M1945s we began to see the artificial yellow thread used in place of, or as here, with the real gold. The real gold tarnishes quite fast where the artificial thread does not. When that happens you get the wierd look you have here. I had a Colonel-General like this years ago where the thread itself was interwoven, real gold and artificial; had a very odd look, but was real and ok.
However, the boards are not a good match at all. I hate to say anything based only on the photo ( sometimes the flash makes it look brighter than it is), but they look like they were added on. Just my opinion. DougD |

thanks for these clear explanations! :D
another question:the fine thread is goldened coton wire? the "spiral" metallic thread is real gold? What is the material used after real gold for the metallic thread?
