Another Forum Shop Purchase
I recently purchased the Order of Victory Clock from our souvenier shop. I love it It hangs on the wall above my computer. I like it a lot. My room mate is jokingly asking if I'm turning Communist
If you haven't bought anything from the gift shop you don't know what you're missing. Also, when you can remember to use the donation button to support your forum. Best, Doc |

Glad you like the Order of Victory clock Mike! Look for more stuff with the Order of Victory on it in the near future. I am currently talking with a curator at the Dwight D. Eisenhower library to obtain permission to use VERY high quality pictures of President Eisenhower's awarding of the Order of Victory on other forum merchandise. McDaniel uses the same photos in his book, here is a thumbnail image they sent me which is more than likely the same as I will be using.

Christophe,
In talking with them they seem very reasonable as far as permission to distribute the images go. I might have to include some sort tagline in the image posted on the forum such as "image courtesy of Dwight D. Eisenhower Library" displayed across the front somewhere. One "downer", the clasp on the back of the order is not removable. In fact, if you look at the photograph in McDaniels book, you will see what appears to be a droplet of silicone type glue that was placed on the screwpost so that the clasp wouldn't ever be removed and misplaced. I asked the curator if this clasp could be removed and a photograph taken of the award because of the interesting detail underneath the clasp and they confirmed that while the clasp can be loosened, it cannot be removed.

Just outta curiousity where is the DDE Library located?
I'm just imagining being able to touch that award. What a rush it must be. I hope you post a little "blog" sorta thing about the trip.

Sorry Eric...I think you misunderstood. This is all being done via email between myself and a curator who has access to the award. The museum is located in Abilene Kansas.

Art,
Since we are talking about the Order of Victory, any chance you could ask about the award document and the original box. I don't believe that I have ever seen one in photo anywhere. Marc |

Christophe,
Once, I found this on the net, but given the quality of the photo and of the handwriting, I have a slight doubt as to genuineness of the document. Marc |
