LatinMajorAC,

Can you please post a good picture of the blade. It seems to be somewhat unusual.

it is slightly odd blade, but yes i can try to post better pictures:-)

and yes riley, this is new, but i have always wanted a naval dagger, and now that i have one i might get a few others in the next few months:-)

willie, since i am completely new to the edged weapons arena, i have no clue. i don't even know how to tell!

in case anyone who was wondering missed it, the picture of theblade is posted above this post (thanks art) and there is no cyrillic writing on the blade at all. could it be an unissued presentation dagger? surplus? the date on it is 1992

LatinMajorAC,

1992 makes it a Russian, not a Soviet dagger.
Is the other side of the blade also engraved in the same way. I have never seen a Soviet dagger with a blade so engraved

i would agree with you that it would make it a russian dagger, HOWEVER, 2 things set it apart for me, 1. it has the state seal of the USSR on it. 2. there is another thread in this section about a dagger very similar to mine, now whether or not it is russian or Soviet, i don't know how you would decide since it has the state seal of the USSR. maybe it is russian, either way, i am pleased with it. :thumbsup

but yes, the other side of the blade is engraved the same way

hm so re-reading the other thread, apparently the conclusion was that it was a russian rederation issued dagger but they still used the seal of the soviet union. so i suppose the dagger is not soviet at all... hm. well then...

still, does that fact make the engravings on the blade any more explainable?
