Faked & Fantasy ribbon bars (Fruit salad)

On many ebay auctions you can see "fruit salad" of high ranking oficcer. I almost NEVER saw an original, thogh there are sometimes such items.

Most of the auctions offer MADE UP bars, with NEW ribbons, usually the wrong setting and many times un-logical combinations.

For example:

"HUGE GROUP of ribbon bars, probably belonging to a Marshall. The set consists of 50 ribbons. Majority of them are Russian, but some (I think, 8) are from other countries. The set starts with 4 Orders of Lenin, then 3 Red Banners, 3 Red Stars - a Warrior! "

As you can imagine, it is vere easy to create such "bars". One honest seller declare:

"Basically my hobby is building ribbon groups". and look at his inventory:

An item for sale in an auction in the UK....

"Soviet Medal Ribbons - box of 7 rolls of ribbon each approx 37 yards long, consisting of: Order of Kutuzov 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes. Order of the Red Star, Order of the red Banner, Order of Suvorov 1st class and Order of the Patriotic War 1st class."

37 yards of Kutuzov and Suvorov 1st class!! :confused:

Was the machine not capable of making less :D

Gentlemen,

I think partly I am the one to blame. :( I carry more of the Soviet ribbons in stock, and lately I have been receiving special orders for screwback awards. Oh, boy!

Many veterans covered the ribbon bar with clear plastic. It looks like this:

I think these plastic covers give a cheap, cheesy appearance to ribbon bars. Were they actually worn by officers in the Soviet army, or were they more for veterans with less accesability to new ribbons? Can anyone find a regulation on this subject?
