4- DIGIT SERIAL # Gerber 1978-79 Command I Knife & Sheath- Mint In Box RARE+:
$324.49

Here is a VERY hard-to find knife. Gerber Command I combat/ survival knife with sheath. It is mint in the same \"trial-run\" box it was in when I bought it back around the 1978 or 1979 period.

This one is part of the initial- production batch. That\'s why it didn\'t come with paperwork and wasn\'t in the standard orange and white Gerber box of that period.

I was a young Army Airborne Infantryman at the time and remember buying two of these the same day. I carried and used the other one for years and still own it. BUT THIS ONE has never been used, carried, or sharpened. Since I\'ve owned it, the only times it has ever been touched by human hands is when I periodically checked it over.

A BIT OF MILITARY HISTORY:

The Command Series knives -- this one, the shorter- blade Command I and the larger Command II came out in the late 1970s after Gerber got response (including a letter from me!) desiring a stronger knife than the Mark I and II series. In combat or with heavy field use, the Mark II had a tendency to snap at the double- serrated waist. The smaller double-edged Mark I knives were good for close-in fighting, but weren\'t much good for other uses. PLUS, paratroopers often carry a good, strong knife up near the shoulder of our web gear. In case of a parachute malfunction, we often had to react super- quickly to cut away the cords so the reserve \'chute didn\'t get tangled-up in it and we didn\'t die... Also, when things are happening fast and you\'re getting knocked around by a faulty parachute, it\'s even MORE dangerous to be yanking out a razor-sharp, doubled- edged knife blade just inches away from the jugular vein or carotid artery. I saw more than one guy hit the ground dead because of that.

ANYWAY, Gerber came out with the Command knives, with a thick, strong spine and serrations only on the partial top edge. The knives could fit the sheaths in either direction, which meant they were safer for both left and right- handed people. I carried other knives in my time, but a Command I stayed up on my gear from then on and saved my life more than once both in parachute malfunctions and in close-combat situations..

Blade is 4 7/8 long overall. Satin-finished stainless steel. Made in Portland, Oregon. FOUR- DIGIT Serial Number is 001767. You very, very rarely to find ANY 4-digit Gerber combat knives on the market, much less in mint condition still with the Trial-Run box.

This one\'s so rare I don\'t know a good place to start. So, I\'ll start it with a very low amount and see what happens.

I\'m not a professional photographer but have done my best to provide clear, informative photos.

I am selling many high- quality items I\'ve collected over the years. Some antique Scottish Rite gold fobs/ pendants, other jewelry, gold college fraternity badges, fine watches, Waterford crystal, religious medals, Military and Masonic swords, and collectable, top-quality knives. I never collected junk and I won\'t sell junk.

EVERY GERBER/ KNIFE COLLECTOR SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY INTERESTED IN THIS sale!

I am an old man now, and a 100% disabled veteran (US Army) in very poor health. Realistically I only have about 5 years left to live, so it\'s easier for me to sell things now and put the money into annuities than for my children to fight over my stuff when I\'m gone!

SHIPPING: Usually, I don\'t charge for shipping. If I do, I NEVER charge full shipping price, but only a part. I cover the rest. I do my best to get things packed-up and ready to go on the day after they\'re sold.

Please see my other sales for top-quality vintage/ antique items. I will combine shipping whenever possible.
