AUTHENTIC AMES MFG. CO DATED 1852 NAVAL OFFICERS SWORD & ORIGINAL SCABBARD WITH GOVERNMENT CONTRACT INSPECTOR MARKS. HAS ORIGINAL SCABBARD WITH APPARENT OLD REPAIR TO LEATHER. ALL COMPLETE ORIGINAL LEATHER GRIP RAY SKIN WRAP AND ORIGINAL FACTORY LEATHER SCABBARD. Exceptionally well preserved gilt surfaces with full length unsharpened and undamaged original factory peened blade. Complete original construction. Well detailed double sided etching with federal Eagle, Panalopy of Arms and USN scroll. Clear stamping of manufacturers etched logo with the original P proof stamp over RPB. for Naval Inspector Lt. Robert B. Hitchcock Arsenal acceptance stamp and the contract date of 1852. on the reverse ricasso. There are only a handful of them made and given to officers of the the US Naval Dept. Less than 150 of this model were issued with inspection marks. And by the date is one of the very first made of the 1852 Naval sword. Pre dates and was still in use during the Civil War. You may never see another example of an inspected contract Naval sword or any branch for that matter. This is the rarest as Officers bought their own private sale examples.. This sword set is for the highest level of US SWORD COLLECTING or AMES SWORD MANUFACTURING collectors.
