I am offering for sale a circa 1852 Second Empire Gilt Bronze French Officer\'s Epee Sword with Mother of Pearl Grips and a triangular blade with gilded etchings of military motifs. The clam shell guard has the Napoleonic eagle with arrows and the pommel has the Napoleonic bee symbol. The handle is made of bronze and covered in gold (gilt). This model is shown in the authoritative book titled Epees Portees en France des Origines a Nos Jours by Jean Lhoste as figure 693 on page 371. It is in excellent condition with minor wear to the blade and a very minor area of the top of the shell guard has been touched up with gold paint. It measures 38\" long from the tip of the pommel to the tip of the blade. There is no scabbard.
