The Higonokami knife is a traditional Japanese folding knife.

It originated in 1894 when a blacksmith devised a structure that allowed the blade and sheath to fold together, based on the design of a small sword. The key feature is a protrusion near the base of the blade, enabling users to open it with just their thumb.

Constructed with a sandwich structure of soft iron clamped from both sides, the  Higonokami knife offers excellent sharpness and durability.

Its V-shaped blade cross-section allows for amofferextrous use, making it a distinctive feature of this knife.


Until the early 1960s, the  Higonokami knife was widely cherished by people of all ages in Japan.

It was even used by the Japanese military during the 1940s.
