Major Goetz was a surgeon in the Civil War for the NY 11th Regiment. Post war he was a leader in the crusade to clean NYC of disease and was an important part of the Tammany political machine. He had patented a trash and crematory truck in 1895 and this letter is documenting the turndown of these trucks in 1896 as it essentially would compete with the cities trash service. This is a very important letter into Tammany Hall and the stopping of scientific progress of a famous pioneer.About Me
