Original Civil War Federal OFFICER\'S FORAGE CAP Original Civil War Federal OFFICER\'S FORAGE CAP Original Civil War Officer\'s High Grade Forage Cap. The cap has several small moth holes. I have lightened some of the photos to show the moth holes. In the interior of the cap has full brown lining and a fancy sweat band. The eagle \"I\" buttons for the chin strap are marked D. Evans Extra (Mass). I googled the maker of these buttons and found some on line that were dug on Civil War Battlefields. The maker of the cap - Bent & Bush have been in business since 1823. In 1841 Bent & Bush (Boston, Mass) listed as hatters. During the Civil War they supplied Military Goods, Caps, buttons, trims, swords, drums, fifes, etc. For reference I copied photos of a forage cap - same style as mine on page 101 of the Time-Life ECHOES OF GLORY. The cap belonged to Capt. Charles Pierce, 10th Mass and on Gen. Judah\'s staff.
