U.S. (French Made) Joslyn Rifle Bayonet measuring 27-1/8" overall with a blade length of 22-1/4" blade, and in inside socket diameter of .720". Very similar to the Chassepot 1866 Bayonet from France, but the fuller ends are different, and this has no French Cartouches, Spine not flat but more rounded. Cross-guard stamped "127" with opposite side marked, "5822", pommel right side stamped, "U". Top of cross-guard marked, "X". All tight with no looseness, excellent working press-stud ejector. Bright blade with minimal wear. No Scabbard. A beautiful piece. Foreign saber bayonets were used in large quantities in the Civil War and afterwards. This one dates to the post civil war to 1870's.
