Awarded - colonel-tankman Biima Ivan Spiridonovich (rus. - Бийма Иван Спиридонович) - battalion commander of the 66th Guards Tank Brigade of the Red Army. Colonel Biima was awarded the order "Hero of the Soviet Union" for bravery in street fights in Berlin.
The battalion of colonel Biima from April 21 to May 2, 1945 fought in street fights in Berlin in the direction of the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag. In these fierce fights the battalion of colonel Biima destroyed 9 tanks, 11 armored personnel carriers, 27 guns and captured 152 Wehrmacht soldiers.
During the assault on the Brandenburg Gate, tanks of colonel Biima helped the soldiers of the Polish communist troops to raise the Polish flag over the Brandenburg Gate. For this feat, colonel Biima was awarded the Polish medal "For the Assault of Berlin".
