Gold Star Order - Huân chươngSao vàng – Vietnam’s Highest Award - Medal
Equivalent tothe ‘Hero of the Soviet Union’ this medal has been awarded less than 40 timessince it’s inception in 1947, that we know of. The medal is believed to havebeen awarded, secretively, to people of in the service of Foreign Governmentswho clandestingly support through their considerable actions, the People ofVietnam.
The Gold StarOrder is bestowed on people who have provided exceptional contribution to theParty and the Nation, for example ones who had participated in therevolutionary movement before 1935 and had occupied the positions of leaders ofthe Party, the Government or commander in chief of the Vietnam People's Army.
If the personbegan to their revolutionary service after 1945, to be eligible for the Order,that person has to undertake one of the positions of General Secretary of theParty, President of Vietnam, Prime Minister of Vietnam, President of theNational Assembly or General of the armed forces before April 30, 1975.
Head offoreign states who actively contributed to Vietnam are sometimes recognized bythe Government of Vietnam with the Gold Star Order.
On the otherhand, the Gold Star Order is awarded collectively for an organization, civil ormilitary unit, who did excellent achievements for the Party and the Nation.
The first wasawarded to Ho Chi Minh, the second to his Vice President Ton Duc Thang.
Leonid BrezhnevFidel Castro, Vo Nguyen Giap and Kim Il-Sung are amongst the recipients.
The originalmedal is a solid gold star.
