Description: George S. Patton in France July / November 1917. Patton wears a crossed cannons collar disk standing at the center, pictured with a group of US Army soldiers (many with a wound stripe on their lower right sleeve).

George S. Patton(b.1885-d.1945) During WW1 (November 1917) Patton left General Pershing's headquarters staff and became the first officer to be appointed to the new U.S. Army Tank Corps. Over the next months he organized, trained, and even designed the uniforms for the new tank units; he was also promoted to lieutenant colonel. General Patton was a cornerstone in U.S. Army tank warfare. His ability to synthesize cavalry tactics with ever-changing technology was paramount to the Allied victory in WW2 and beyond. As commander, his experiences in North Africa, Sicily, and Northern Europe largely assured victory against the Nazis.
