For your consideration a full size VINTAGE WW1 French Croix de Guerre military medal war cross with Bronze Star.It is in good condition except the center of back of cross has a dimple. Back of cross 1914-1916.Medal has no pin-back. Thanks for looking!!

The Croix de Guerre may either be bestowed as a unit award or to individuals who distinguish themselves by acts of heroism involving combat with enemy forces. The medal is also awarded to those who have been \"mentioned in despatches\", meaning a heroic deed was performed meriting a citation from an individual\'s headquarters unit. The unit award of the Croix de Guerre was issued to military commands that performed heroic deeds in combat and were subsequently recognized by headquarters.

  • FRENCH Mentioned in dispatches: the lowest degree is represented by a bronze star while the highest degree is represented by a bronze palm
    • a bronze star for those who had been mentioned at theregiment orbrigade level.
    • a silver star, for those who had been mentioned at thedivision level.
    • a (gold) silver-gilt star for those who had been mentioned at thecorps level.
    • a bronze palm for those who had been mentioned at thearmy level.
    • a silver palm represents five bronze ones.
    • a (gold) silver-gilt palm for those who had been mentioned at theFree French Forceslevel (World War II only).
