This is a piece of American history; It was acquired from the Malta Test Station in Malta, NY. This facility was used by various defense and energy departments for rocket and nuclear research and development.
Since we\'re not rocket scientists, we can\'t be exactly sure how it was used. But there is a fire button, many adjustments and what looks like a space for an oscilloscope or an analog computing patch panel. This may have been used to dial in certain parameters and fire the pulse reactor ( according to my friend Art). The pulse width modulator inside the cabinet is marked with serial number 1 and the construction of the cabinet looks like an engineering department, prototype build. This is probably the only such device. I\'m not sure if this was built in 1965 or even about 20 years earlier when Openheimer ( father of the A bomb) was reported to have been at this facility. Did Openheimer himself build this trigger device? The many 10 turn pots and banana connectors make this a type of pre-digital analog computing
device.We are including everything you see in the photos. This includes the hand made wooden box with four gauges, the quality control procedure for the facility where this equipment was used, and a news article from 1965 announcing the addition of a nuclear pulse reactor to the facility. The quality control procedure was issued in 1966 and includes an organizational chart, inspection of measuring equipment, and drawing change procedures. These are just a few examples of the 21 sections of this document issued by GE when GE ran the facility.
