The German Wound Badge (“Verwundetenabzeichen”) was instituted by Kaiser Wilhelm II on March 3, 1918.It was awarded to soldiers of the German Army who were wounded during World War I. It was awarded in black for one to two wounds, in silver for three to four wounds, and in gold for five wounds or more. It is an oval badge with laurels surrounding the edges and a ribbon at the base. In the center is an Imperial helmet, with a pair of swords behind it, and the background is pebbled. Today I am offering a black wound badge (third class) in very good condition (see photos).I have enjoyed having it my collection for many years and the time has come to pass it on to another collector.
