WW2 Invasion Fleet Flags From The Normandy Invasion & Reunion Book Dated 1991.
ORIGINAL WWII June 6th 1944 D-Day US Flag & USCG Flag from the Coast Guard Cutter 83490 / CGC-49(CGC 83490) Cookie & Pop signed the flag with their nicknames. Condition is battleworn and blown-out by the tenacious weather from crossing the English Channel. The CGC 83490 was one of the cutters that was part of the Flotilla #1 Normandy Beach Invasion force. These Normandy Invasion flags (1) US Flag, (1) USCG Flag and (1) Nazi flag that was pelted with bullets when the Alliedtroops came ashore. I was told that this hung on one of the defensive bunker walls protecting the beach head. This flag was given to one of the crew members of the CGC 83490 as a thank you during a rescue of some of the injured service men. Also you will get along a book which was signed by the crew members during the surviving crew members reunion in 1991.The reunion book and the (3) flags were a graduation gift forMichael Bryant my sisters husband and personally given to Michael by Jack Hogan. Jack was one of the crew members of the CGC 83490. VERY FEW OF THESE FLAGS SURVIVED OPERATION OVERLOARD. I HAVE OTHER PHOTOS OF THE COAST GUARD FLAG IF INTERESTED or I can take additional photos for you.
