WWII Japanese Bring Back Lot USN:
$450.00

Recently bought this amazing lot, but I am shifting my focus towards WWII 10th Mountain.

All items seen are included

“WWII group of Japanese and US items brought back by local Navy veteran Stanley John “Peanuts” Witek (S2C). He was born on Oct. 7, 1915, in Elizabeth N.J., to the parents of Blazay Witek and Sophia Marcinowska Witek Jasinski. During the war, Witek served on USS Landing Craft Ship LCS(L)(3)-35 beginning in Dec 1944 and served throughout the rest of the war. According to Navsource.org, LCS-35 participated in the Iwo Jima Operation from Feb 19-26, 1945, Okinawa Gunto Operation from March 26 - June 30, 1945, and lastly minesweeping operations from Nov 21 - Dec 18, 1945. Included in the group is a WWII Japanese Army helmet shell that has a broken star and several shrapnel holes with a Japanese wound tag tied to the helmet with a pencil arrow pointing to the head. The tag is red printed on a tan colored paper. It is unclear when the tag was added or if it’s original WWII era. What makes the group really impressive is the 1941/42 dated 37mm shell that Witek engraved, “Shell that downed Jap plane / off Guam Stanley J Witek / Landing Craft Ship #35.” Also included is a named canteen and Japanese national silk flag that is wrapped in plastic and on a white backing board”
