Admiral Ushanka
#21
Burki were official? I got totally different answer when I had asked a question about them some years ago.

But OK, if the badge is wrong, than I must have been wrong as well. mea culpa. I apologise for that.

So, what can we say about it:

"I think this is civil "ushanka" with cocarde weared on for best selling."?

"Badge is wrong and not belonged to this hat."?

Fake?

Thanks.

I would agree to this. As the larger badge was used for the visor-type fur cap, I would not cry fake over the fact that a larger badge was used on a private purchase.

This would also not be the first time it is found that the regulations were not strictly followed, especially within the higher ranks. This goes not only for clothing but for the wearing of awards etc etc.

I tend to agree with Tretov again that this cap is non-regulation but is OK.

Perhaps you would be able to explain why there one large and one small cockade?

The large one is for the parade visor cap and the small one is for service cap. You may notice that the cap itself is basically the same, the difference is the cockade.

As a personal comment - the astrakhan wool is quite expensive, as mentioned earlier. It wouldn't be that unrealistic to think a such nice cap would have been used for the same purposes as the visor-fitted astrakhan cap (or as some parade-walkout wear) and thus being fitted with the larger cockade. Just me thinking.

Just wondering, what do you mean when you talk about bigger and smaller cockade? And metall?

The smaller is for daily service and the larger for parade? Or is it more different types of cockades that I have missed? The metall cockade is for officers (not senior), and not admirals, isn´t it?

I mean, someone wrote that is wrong cockade on the ushanka. Yes it is becose the ushanka is non-regulation, but if it is a private purchase for admirals I think there is no better alternative? which cockade can fit a admiral cap better then a admiral cockade?

If you use any russian web search engine you will find dozen stores that sell exactly the same hat for about $100 - $150. Cockade cost about $10. I’m just curios how much jupan paid for that hat. To best of my knowledge Russian admirals continue to use visor astrakhan hats.

If you look at the picture on this page, you can see two admirals in white caps. The one on the left wears a parade cap with a large cockade and the one on the right has the service cap with the smaller cockade. All-metal badges were for officers.

There are two choices basically, the large one (for parade wear on caps and the wool cap with visor, for example) and the small one for service/daily wear. Question is then, what was the purpose of this ushanka. Both are embroidered with some metal part in the middle.

I would not call the caps or fake cockades sold by your russian-ukrainian stores to be "exactly" the same as the cap in this thread. The cap below is indeed sold at 100 USD and the badge at 10 USD. However, if you cannot see the differences between those and authentic cap and authentic badge, there is no reason to discuss this matter any further.

Here is the inside of the military ushanka I posted earlier, with a factory tag. The pattern of the cloth is the same as in the ushanka posted by Jupan.
