Hi,
I've come across a number of books written by Robert Werlich. Has anyone read any of these books and would recommend them? I'm not really interested in imperial awards.
Russian Orders, Decorations and Medals by Robert Werlich, ISBN: 0685908186
Badges of Imperial Russia Including Military Civil and Religious by Robert Werlich, ISBN: 0911200029
Russian Orders, Decorations & Medals Including Those of Imperial Russia, the Provisional Government, the Civil War & the Soviet Union by Robert Werlich, ISBN: 0911200037
Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.

I buy all books I come across.
Books by Werlich are not cheap and don't contain much information, especially about Soviet period.
They were written many years ago and were the only source of information for long period.

Are these book still available? Can't seem to find them other than one dealer in the USA but the shipping charges are outrageous.

There is an online network of used book dealers, where I've seen the book "RUSSIAN ORDERS, DECORATIONS AND MEDALS Including Those of Imperial Russia; The Provisional Government and The Soviet Union" with 7 copies listed, most at $65, with a wide variation in shipping costs. Most copies are located in the States. I'll PM you the link.

Before you go around buying Werlich's books that are fairly outdated, you should invest your money into some of the plethora of newly printed books on Soviet awards.
Just my opinion.

Dave, I have books on Soviet awards, what I am looking for is a book on Imperial Russia awards. Seems Werlich is quite popular with Russian websites, unless you could recommend me a better one? Thanks

There aren't really books like McDaniels bible out there for Imperial awards.
Most books show you a plate with an example.

Dannybou,
There are some excellent books on Imperial awards written by Durov. Recent editon was published last year (2002 or 2003), it's in both Russian and English.
Also, one of the Avers catalogues (I think it's #3, has white cover) provides good reference on various types and covers vast variety of medals and jettons.
