Thank you, I have edited my post accordingly. . .

Senior Sergeant Roza Shanina did indeed only live to the age of 20.
Fortunately the photographs will be a permanent reminder of the young talent.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Senior Sergeant Roza Shanina

Thank you for correction, but for some reason Google returned 2 830 000 pages for Rosa Shanina and only 80 800 pages for Roza Shanina.

Here is 23 year old Bulgarian Pharmacist (and of course trade-unionist) Lidija Ivanova Drazheva in 1959.

Who needs some sugar to help the medicine go down?

Usually the people I see around pharmacies were born the same year as her and really don't look very good or well......

Here is more of Roza Shanina. Being a pin-up did not stop her been thrown into battle. She gave her life whilst using herself as a human shield for a wounded officer - not the role she was assigned to.

Here is Sima Vitali Vasileva. May not be so much of a "beauty" until you realise she was also a petrolhead back in 1971!

Here's one for the ladies.

This dashing Errol Flynn lookalike went into sports training after serving in the army. I believe he was awarded in 1979 for his contribution in training the Bulgarian Olympic Volleyball team that went on the win Men's Silver in Moscow 1980. Research is forthcoming.

He was also head of the Bulgarian Sports delegation to Finland in 1961.
