Ebay jokes
He's been know for his exhorbitant pricing (and occasional dicey material). Or at least someone from that island has.

Sometimes reality doesn't bare in on some folks. This particular seller is the sort that brings the hobby into question with radical and unreal statements. Apparently if you buy an item from him you are stealing it from him and if you re-list it on ebay you will instantly make a 10,000% return to questions asked! I've been unfortunate enough to have had communication with this person before..... NEVER again. $9.99 is closer to the true price than $999.99.

I was just strolling around on eBay...
... Until I saw this; item number "110771262047".

I don't want to live on this planet anymore :thumbsdown

Great as a KEYCHAIN?!
A shame, that. Maybe somebody will rescue it and attempt a partial restoration?
For the price of the opening bid it might be worth a shot. I'm considering it, and if anybody else wants to try say so so we don't end up fighting over it.
Anyone know if the temperature of the "silver solder" will destroy the enamel underneath?

The gist of the auction: "Soviet ORDER of GLORY CCCP medal that was as seen, modified. I wore this as a necklace charm and had it for over 15 years. It was authentic Order of Glory but I am not Russian and had the CCCP and number removed from the back of the medal. See photo, as well the writing on the front was silver soldered over except for the enameled red star and building, also as seen. So there you go, for the silver content then, it is worth it. Great as a key chain."

Shake my head and sigh. . .
I thought about buying it, and contact a professional goldsmith (that of course also handles silver), and see what that can be done...

The back seems to be completely filed away. The front seems like bad silver soldering, so I'm not sure what that can be done...

The weird thing is that seller is from the US, and ships from Europe. How can he/she have recently been using it for 15 years if it's left behind in a country across the globe?
Well well...

EricFG: I'll gladly let you buy it if you're sure about being able to properly restore it a little bit.
Buy it Eric so I don't have to. You can't lose as you can weigh it in and get your money back.... It would be a great project to display start to end on the forum. Very VERY good luck.

I wondered about that bit as well. Nothing particularly shady in the sellers history; seems to know his/her militaria if nothing else.

I've got a very good connection here in my town. I just can't garuntee they can remove the solder without destroying the enamel (if there's any there to begin with.)

All right, the consensus is that I should bid on it and I will. I'll keep you posted as to what happens.
Let's just kick around ideas of what to do if I do get this. If I do I think I'll start a thread about it, maybe a poll as to what to do.

Well, I'll cancel my bidding plans.

Eric, I think it's better that you get it. I got no good connections either...
Good luck with the project. I'm already excited! :p

PS: O' Lord! Some's bid! Is it you, Eric? o.o
