what about Yuri Gagarin? I remember a joke going around that he had the "accident" because his collection of medals was bigger and better than Brezhnev's. Did he not receive any Hero titles?
Thanks,
Eric
Eric,
This is what I posted earlier,(Post #33) I would love to know the answer but there has been no replies yet
Guys,
Can someone check the "Hero of Bugaria" list please. I'm not sure if the last two are correct or if they recived the Socialist Labour Star.
And what Heroes Stars did Juri Gagarin and Valentina Tereshkova get?
In one of the pics, #16 of the other Thread, what is the second Order from the right on the top row on Valentinas Uniform?
Was that Italien Order ever confirmed?
And last but not least, does anyone know of any Soviets who were awarded the "Hero of Rumania" Gold Star?
Cheers,
Eddie.

Eddie,
I think the confusion about the last two cosmonauts comes from the signed photograph that I posted on the forum.
On the photograph Leonov and Belyayer both are wearing Hero of Labor medal.

The thing is that it's not clear from the picture what exactly they are wearing - Hero of Bulgaria or Hero of Labor.

Thanks William,
Yes it's a bit confusing as to what they were awarded.
BTW that's a lovely set you posted.

Eddie,
Mahdi indicated it could be an italian order, but this is wrong : the triangular-red-ribboned star with the gold suspension bar is Czech, Zlatá hvìzda hrdiny socialistické práce / Gold Star of the Hero of Socialist Labor fo Czechoslovakia.

This thread is - sometimes - fun to read, BUT there is simple point that was neglected - there is NO WAY of knowing all the recipients of foreign hero stars, unless one can obtain the lists from ALL the countries who had a hero star.

Thanks Christophe,
This then should be the list of stars from the two Cosmonauts.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Gagarin, Juri Alekseyevich & Tereshkova, Valentina Vladimirovna
Hero of the Soviet Union.
Hero of Socialist Labor of Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. (Zlatá hvìzda hrdiny socialistické práce).
Hero of Socialist Labor of the People's Republic of Bulgaria. (Geroj na sotsialistitjeskija trud).
Hero of Labor of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
Hero of Socialist Labor of the Mongolian People's Republic.
Gagarin, Juri Alekseyevich - Hero of the People's Republic of Bulgaria.
Tal,
That's true, although some are of course easier than others. Mongolia is complete as are most likely Vietnam and Cuba.

His awards include Hero of the Soviet Union (twice), Hero of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, and the Gagarin Gold Medal. He is an honorary citizen of Kaluga, Arkalyk, Tselinograd, and Prague.

In 1967, he became the first foreigner to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Republic of Bulgaria.

Hero of the Soviet Union (June 22, 1963)
Hero of the Mongolian People's Republic (May 1965)
Hero of Socialist Labor of Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. (August, 1963)
Hero of Socialist Labor of the People's Republic of Bulgaria.(September 9, 1963),
Hero of Labor of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.(October, 1971)
Hero of Socialist Labor of the Mongolian People's Republic.
This means she recived both the "Hero of Mongolia" and the "Hero of Socialist Labor"
So there are now 19 awardees of the "Hero of Mongolia" !
