Please feel free to address any concerns here. I want to make sure everything is clear before we begin.
I guess my main concern was to clarify: is the photo supposed to be aiming for the most detail of just the award itself, almost as if we were looking for the clearest scan to judge an item's authenticity? For instance, is the winner a picture so detailed you would post it in the fakes section and no one would ask for a better scan? :chuckle Or can we take an artistic angle, like the black and white photo of the shot-up bravery medal in a hand (I can't find that now for some reason, anyone know where it is?)? Which of these two approaches better reflects the intent of the contest? Or are both ok?
I guess my main intent was to see how much information (i.e. pretend you were posting an award here for authentication) you could squeeze into a 50K file. That might make for a boring group of pictures, so lets just say, as long as the primary subject matter shows a soviet award and is within the 50K limit, and adheres to the physical dimensions specified, that would be considered a valid entry.
Methinks the photos that don't win an award are going to be among the most interesting, strictly from a visual standpoint. I hope I remember correctly that all entries will be available for viewing by the public (i.e. other members). If I'm wrong, I certainly hope something like a "gallery" can be arranged - perhaps even a permanent one,

Does the term "soviet award" encompasses awards manufactured by the soviet mint for other east Bloc countries, or just the state awards of USSR?
There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right

Here's a custom made wooden award box with a squishy and fluffy blue coat... There's a clasp on the front and it measures 14cm by 20cm by 3cm... So any guesses?
