Hi Guys,

I have purchased a while ago now, a group to a US army Soldier (WW2)

His entitlement and citation is attached below; He was awarded the Order of Glory 3rd Class, and the Croix de Guerre, as well as the Silver Star.

Private James Beck 318th Infantry.

Is it possible to get anything from the number on his award document/slip???? Or will I have to go to Russia??

ATB,
Tom

Without his award document, there is no real way to tell if he really received this or just bought it and added it later.

I do have his 'soviet' telegram, and newspaper cuttings, the award though is not his (probably got rid when the cold war started.)

Just get the OG3 researched. There are a few guys out there who can do this. I'm sure someone will PM you a name/email of someone who can get the research done just using the serial number. Ask for the award card (for the name) and the citation (if you want to know how it was actually won). If you do that, you'll hopefully get an answer as to who it belonged to. I don't know if US awardees are in those Podolsk archives, but if it comes back with a Soviet soldier's name, that will at least settle the issue.

laced the award for display, at one point, that is why I speculated on the reason behind why it went (he may never have even received the actual medal???). Thanks for the research details, i'll get that done (for both numbers :-) ).

Dave did a very nice article in the JOMSA on US recipients of Soviet awards. They can be researched, but just with a record card (the same sort of thing I see with Soviet awards to Mongolians).

Brilliant, thanks, the US arn't very helpful with this guy, because I can't prove when he died (the CIA however are rather helpful, eeven with supposedly top secret matters), amazing the difference between departments :-)
