How To Store And Display Awards.
slava1945 Wrote:Very nice collection Phillip. I like the SVB badge (is its a screwback or a pin needle variation?). I just recently acquired an SVB membership booklet (I also have an SVB badge) and an SVB (Bezbojnik "Godless" magazine from early 1941). The Union of Militant Atheists officially seized publishing in 1947 (I believe) so it's a nice little piece of Soviet history. I'll try to post some of the images in the future.

Slava,

Since you comments come apropo of nothing I can see in this thread - perhaps unbeknown to me. Please point in me in the Right rirectioso I've never heard of this acronymn before, so please sogive my ignorance when I ask What I have dojjwhat

Need some help from from you gents. It more advice to me. I've finally gotten all the pieces I need to display them properly. Only one question: which of the two arrangements do you like better? One shows the scarce BG medal overlapping the award document for the same medal (the document is a very well-made laser copy on heavy bond paper). The only difference (that I'm asking) that that in the second photograph the BG medal does not touch it's document.

So please, let me know what you think about the pro and cons each AND most importantly, let me which one you prefer to see hanging in my "office."

Thanks in advance,
Phillip

The symmetry of the right photo speaks more to me.

I like the right hand one too for the same reason as Paul.

Cheers, Ade.

Phillip,

I like the second photo too. It's more pleasing to the eye, and more symmetrical as well. (I like symmetry in composition).

Phillip, do what YOU think is better. YOU will be looking at this display every day. The display looks great :thumbsup

I would perhaps make a color copy of that document and use for the display rather than having the original exposed to light for days and days. As for the line-up, the right one is more attractive IMHO.

Patrick: Thank you - that is a color copy of a document thoughtfully provided by the seller of the medal.Smile Those are good marks from you if you couldn't tell from the picture. That means it does the job.:thumbsup

Thank you everyone. I also prefer the 2nd photo. The only reason I asked was to make sure the medal itself wasn't getting "swallowed" by the border guard green of the background. One more set complete.:thumbsup (It looks even better when the glass door is closed on the frame but photos are very difficult that way.)

Well, if you mean the acronym SVB (in Russian it stands for Union of Militant Atheists). In English it is also knows as the Leagues of Militant Godless. This organization was founded by Emilan Yaroslavsky in the mid-1920's and was disbanded after ww2 in the late 1940's. I believe SVB had over 3 million members. It also had it's own publications (Bezbojnik, and Bezbojnik u Stanka). Yaroslavsky was one of the top members in the Communist party. He also served as a head prosecutor in the trial and execution of a famous White Russian General Ungern Von Sternberg.

Yes. That's the one (screwback variation! I love it). I wish I had one. I don't know if the screwplate is original, but it very well might be. Nice condition as well.
