Navy visor cap - vinyl top?
#1
Just got this cap. It is modeled as a navy cap but the top is made from vinyl rather than the normal cotton cloth. I guess it would be very useful for outdoor navy use, but this is the first time I have one of these. Not my favorite material though. Interesting with the small ventilation holes in the back of the cap. The visor is somewhat larger than usual as well.

Maybe a private purchase?
There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

Could well be. I've understood Aeroflot sported a similar type of vinyl top caps, perhaps this one is inspired from those.

I've had a similar one for close to 8 years. I tend to believe that they are post-Soviet.

Do you have pictures of the inside or any markings?

This is the inside. It shows clear traces of wear, both on the sides and on the shield.

The side buttons have some markings on the back but their attachment prongs are somehow hidden behind the interior lining, so I cannot remove them. The backside of the buttons seems to be of some special design, not the usual black back.

The diamond is very similar to those of Bulgarian visor caps.

Could it be maybe manufactured in a WP country for a Soviet Navy officer stationed in it, just like it happened in Germany?

Could be, but on the other hand it could perhaps equally well be a Bulgarian cap with switched insignia :) Although the theory is plausible, the large visor reminds me of some Bulgarian/Romanian caps I happened to have briefly some week ago.

I don´t know. Bulgarian caps´ visors are way larger than this one and the shape is different (IMO they resemble actual RF caps a lot).
