Patriotic War.
lauri, could it be from the north-western direction...1st baltic front?

Could be, I have no information on close serial numbers. 242637 was awarded by 2nd Baltic Front, 244468 by 2nd Ukrainian Front.

HERE'S AN OPW 1ST CLASS 1985 ISSUE S/N: 471812. As I continue to catalog my collection I find pieces like this that were never entered into my database program.

It's funny now, but I've always just relegated my 1985s to "nothing important or interesting - everybody got one..." and all the other stereotypical myths. Now, after actually taking a look at the 1st class I bought in Moscow in the early 1990s I see it has one of the written serial numbers and I never noticed that before. The 2nd class is something I picked up cheap off of somebody last year just to have one of each.

Looks like I may have to take a closer look at that 1st class one after all since it's in the 1.01 million early group. It also has an "irregular circle" on the reverse that is visibly cut about 3/4 or the way around.:)

#585052 Pretty cool variation when compared to all the others out there. This is my latest purchase. Is this highly rare? Because in my 8 years of collecting i only ever saw 3 for sale.

These are reasonably scarce, but definitely not rare IMHO.

I bought this in the beginning of my collecting days when i knew nothing almost. I was told the number was professionally redone by the mint. Notice the "7" on the rifle butt this is a early screw back. My question is does the story of being redone by the mint sound correct?Or did i buy a order with a serial number redone for some reason i.e to go with a awards grouping?

Enjoy!

Good order!
The carver on a mint made a mistake during a writing, cut off an error and has engraved correct number. Sometimes meets.
To me seems 1 on a butt.

Nice order, and the number is correct for a starback variety. :thumbsup We've seen slight corrections, if a single number was done incorrectly for example. If the last three digits are redone, that's more suspicious to me.
