Maybe a master mark, the first piece of a new series .....
Maybe a close as we'll get to knowing what those marks are for. Many seem to think they are 'makers marks' but they are so seldom seen that that explaination makes little sense.
I had a "7" (I think) on a ORB that I unwisely sold.

Hello,
I have a deeper question about the awarding process.
How does the awarding process for the jubilee OGPW 1985 went on?
A friend of mine has a fully documented group, with all documents, boxes, papers and identification cards and plastic clasp to an MWD officer.
His julilee OGPW 1985 is dated in the red award book in the year 1985, but there is a little sheet of paper "SPRAWKA" with the adress (street, building and floor level and room number) and the calendar date where he can get his OGPW 85. But the date is in 1986. So the date in the award book is 1985 and the date of delivery / pick up is in 1986. ( A few month lie between the two dates.)
Was that a normal process that the award books were filled out earlier? and the award was handed out later?
When I meet my friend I will take pictures and post them here.
I believe that was very much the case especially for awards distributed en masse like the 1985 GPWs, and even more so since it sounds like your friend's award was distributed by his local administrative district head rather than directly from a military source (which was also the common case with these).
I've bought a OGPW 2nd class (No. 243'486) a few days ago and now I would like to know if anyone could tell me if the order is really issued in 1944. Any further info would be greatly appreciated.
