Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.
Thank you very much for your help! I have a so-so quality photo of Sultan Amet-Khan, the very same one you have!
As for the Sorge stamp, I have that too! In fact, I plan to use a stamp of one Soviet Partisan for his bio. I find hunting down the photos is a fun challenge!
Thank you very much!

Henry,

There is a photograph of Richard Sorge on the following website :

If you don't already have it, try to contact them to get the rights.

The DDR (East German) security forces "Stasi" under Erich Mielke issued a set of 4 silver table medals for outstanding accomplishments. These medals honor the efforts of three Germans and several Japanese to warn and inform the Soviet Union of Hitler's and Japan's intentions in 1941. One of these medals shows Dr. Richard Sorge on the front and the inscription on his tombstone (in German) on the back: "Here, a hero rests who gave his life fighting war, for peace in the whole world, born 1895 in Baku, came to Japan in 1933, arrested in 1941, executed on November 7, 1944."

Thank you Dietrich and Kim!
Sorge is buried in Tokyo and in 1964, Premier Nikita Krushcev saw a movie about Sorge and asked if the story was true. It was. So Krushev awarded Sorge the HSU and had the Soviet Embassy in Tokyo build a nicer grave, and gave his widow a pension. She died a couple of years ago.

Amet-Khan: Kim! Great photo! It is better than mine! Can you send me the digital photo via email? You can contact Art Bates for my email address.

I made the mistake of putting up my email address on a veterans' message board 3 years ago, and now, I get over 30 SPAMS a day! Later, friends who were knowledgeable about computers told me that they actually have programs where unscrupulous people can "mine" message boards and internet sites for your email address. So never put your email address on any message board.

I had thought about visiting the Crimea in Ukraine and going to see the monument dedicated to Amet-Khan. I became interested in him in 1968.

Thank you very much!

Im assuming he is in the air force from the propellors on his collar.

Thanks in advance

I would think, more specifically, a senior lieutenant .......one stripe, with THREE small stars (one high on the center stripe, barely visible, and two below that flanking the center stripe).

I too saw that third blob but am not sure if it is a third star (thus Sr. Lt.) or the air force wings insignia.
