Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.
Tal and other fellow collectors,

Here are some of Cosmonauts with awards photos from my collection.

First comes Cosmonaut # 4 Pavel POPOVICH.

Photographed and signed in 1997.

He's wearing parade uniform of the Major-General of Russian Air Forces.

Impressive awards:

2 Hero SU,
2 Lenin,
Friendship order,
medals...

I've noticed that he's not wearing any foreign awards, which I am sure he's got plenty of...

Enjoy!

William

No foreign awards? The third/fourth row seems to be full of foreign awards, at least I can see two (one on east german suspension) and one with Bulgaria colors on ribbon?

This is nothing spectactular, but I thought the picture was really neat. I just got this photo in with a group today to an Army Major/Commissar. Here he is in his summer white uniform along with a highly-decorated (and very young looking) fellow officer (wearing a uniform of some odd material).

Enjoy!

Hello Dave,
nice photo. I have one of these white summer service uniforms and they are becoming pretty rare now. The officer here is wearing his normal olive coloured cap but these uniforms came complete with white cap cover and in some cases white caps were manufactured for wear with the uniform. They were made from light cotton. They were introduced in 1943 and proved popular in the hotter regions of the Soviet union. They should not be confused with the naval summer tunic which was similar in appearance but did not have flaps on the breast pockets pockets.

In addition to cotton some are made of linen, and a few, rare even for generals, are made of white silk.

Henry and all,

Here's cool site dedicated to pilots of WW II:

http://www.pilotenbunker.de/

The owner of the site has ambitious goal of profiling ALL/most of pilots and so far he has more than 1000 (!!!!) profiles in his database.

Most of the pilots are Germans, but he also has some Soviets (including Ahmet-Khan Sultan with plenty of photographs) and pilots from other nations.

Best regards,
William

Here is another (better, but probably earlier) photo of Marinesco. The photo was published in the book "Dödens Hav" (Sea of Death) by C-G. Wetterholm (Sweden).

According to the book, the image was supplied by the Gustloff-Archiv, Heinz Schön.

Thank you Patrik and all!
I finally sent in all my photos and manuscript for the Osprey book
HEROES OF THE SOVIET UNION. Getting that Marinesko photo was difficult, but I succeeded! Several months ago, I bought a Soviet submariner album and there was that particular photo of Marinesko! Thanks for your efforts!
It was rather difficult trying to pick Heroes for my book. There were over 11,600!!
