Hmm, I think the boards I posted are early post-war. Perhaps the practice was different after the war. Mysteries ever abounding in this hobby :)

To all:
A very nice example of the ultra rare M1945 VP uniform for medical corps general officers. Note the smaller width shoulder boards as well as the fact that the collar and cuff embroidery is done in silver bullion thread. Depicted is Major General I.I. Savitskiy. Regards, slava1stclass

The uniform in the photo is the M1945 VP that Yumashev wore from 1945 until 1947. In 1947, when he was made head of the Soviet Navy he had a more ornate example made. He could not really change his insignia (he was after all not an "Admiral of the Fleet of the USSR" like Kuznetsov had been) but he did add a little flare to the uniform. The cuffs and collar leaves were made more detailed and larger, and the coat itself was made longer; sort of in a frock coat style. He wore this uniform as head of the Navy to set himself a bit apart from the other admirals.
I was fortunate enough to have the M1945 uniform Yumashev wore as head of the navy pass through my hands a few years back and it now resides in the Sinclair collection. It can be seen on P.248-253 in "World War II Parade Uniforms of the Soviet Union" , published by Schiffer publishing. DougD

Nothe the current Russian uniform, and the unique way of the ribbon bar atachement. There is simply NO room for so much ribbons!
Under the banner of Marxism-Leninism, under the leadership of the Communist Party--forward to new victories in the construction of communism!

Wish I had that one in my closet. In color that would be quite striking.:)
