The uniform looks a little similar to the mundir tunic. Really nice!

I wish there was a way of knowing the "rank" indicated by collar embroidery. I have such a tunic (from a lower ranked/awarded miner). The buttons are actually just sewn on in a line in the front. The tunic actually closes entirely with hidden hooks on the side. Pictures of these in use is really rare. Thanks for posting it!

Cool. Guy on right has same pattern as my tunic so same "rank".....whatever that is.
Lady looks pretty tough, too. Probably wouldn't want to arm wrestle her at any age.

Gents,

An outstanding image of an unidentified NKVD man from Kirov. Note his "egg" and collar insignia.

If he survived the purges, I'm sure he had to do something about that moustasche style in 1941

Jeffrey,

Not necessarily. A similar moustache did little to inhibit HSU I. I. Fedyuninskiy's rise to Army General.
