I think that, just as in the USSR, administrative mistakes took place once in a while, and this is simply one of them.

Double awardings were common. I have at least a dozen double award Bulgarian groups. Admin. usually caused the error such as getting one in the mail and one in person as most of the later commemoratives were issued "en mass". A nice group which should display VERY well. I hope you didn't pay too much (as in a 2 or higher number as the first digit). Don't eat them all at once!

A lovely group, thanks for posting it. Nice to see a group where the prevailing posturing paranoia doesn't strip away the details and the substance.
:thumbsup
Thanks, All, for the thoughts and comments! :thumbsup
Here's the last document in the set, sent in 1984 for the 40th anniversary of 9.9.44. It reads something like this (I think google translator actually hit the nail on the head this time): "With a sense of deep gratitude for your personal contribution to the struggle against fascism and capitalism and the construction of socialism, We wish you good health, personal happiness and long creative activity for building a developed socialist society in our country!" It's like a socialist Hallmark card. Not sure who it's from exactly, but it looks like a party organization. "кирковски рк на бкп"

Who sent the card is shown on the unopened flaps:
Left: Bulgarian Communist Party Right: Kirkovsk raion committee, Sofia. Simon

There were similar ones in use in the USSR in postwar years. Marc

Here is his wife's (Stojanka Angelova Kavrakirova) Medal "30 Years Of Victory Over Fascist Germany" also awarded by the Higher Military Medical Institute but this serial number is not consecutive, in fact this one is considerably lower.
"Signed with his own rubber stamp"
