He has been participating in the Patriotic War since March 1942. He was severely wounded during the fighting near Mozdok and took part in the fighting in the Baksan gorge.

During the breakthrough of the enemy defenses near Vyshestebliyevskaya in the course of the fighting on the Taman peninsula, comrade Gelovani was directly at the frontline, supporting the divisional commander. He displayed courage and heroism and with disregard for his own life under enemy fire supported the divisional commander. After the breakthrough he risked his life by crossing a minefield, stepping over the mines and thus showing a road and passage.

For displayed heroism and dedication to his commander he deserves to be awarded the Order of the Red Star.
